Next to Costa del Sol is a much less famous, but in no way less interesting coastal area. Costa Tropical is despite its less known status filled with picturesque beaches, beautiful nature and interesting cultural experiences. And at the same time you can enjoy that the area is way less crowded from big amounts of tourists.

Along the coast you will see tall mountains rise over the sea. The mountains typically go all the way down to the beach and form a lot of beautiful coves and bays. The beautiful coves and impressive mountains make the area very popular for hiking, climbing and different water sports. If you wish to go snorkelling or scuba diving you should visit the coves east of Punta de la Mona. Here the water is so clear that you get to see far into the depths and easily spot the different interesting fish.

Almuñécar is one of the largest cities in the area and it is a very popular holiday destination. Here you can experience the beautiful San Miguel Castle or visit their bird park, which is home to 120 different bird species. If you brought your kids on vacation, they will surely love a day in the local waterpark. The waterpark is the only saltwater park in Spain, which means way fewer chemicals are being used. The smaller city Salobreña is definitely also worth a visit. The city is known as the white city due to its many beautiful white houses.

If you want to go on an excursion you should go to Granada, which is situated about 1 hour drive into the country. In Granada you get to experience the Palace of King Charles V, which is build in the beautiful Spanish renaissance style. Granada is also home to the national park Sierra Nevada, where you during the winter can go skiing and during the summer get to go on beautiful hikes in the tall mountains.
