Crete is the biggest of the Greek islands, which lies in the Mediterranean, reflecting in the blue sea. Its southern location allows you to enjoy a summer climate from April to November. The island reaches over three climate zones and you can therefore both experience mountains with snowy peaks and beaches filled with sun and palms. Beach and sun is also some of the biggest draws at Crete, but the island has so much more to offer. At Crete you are situated in historical surroundings with old ruins and beautiful harbour cities.

Heraklion (also: Iraklion) is the islands capital and here the streets are buzzing with life. The city offers good shopping and a large market with everything from vegetables to clothe and spices. Heraklion is the largest city, but Chania is probably the most well known. The city’s old Venetian harbour is the centre for bars and discos, while the old town offers crocked streets, Turkish mosques and a charming atmosphere. Surrounding Chania is a long line of smaller cities, where you find a wide range of hotels for the summer tourists.

If you wish your holiday to take place in more relaxed surroundings, you will find that the southeast part of Crete is less visited and here you get to experience the Crete the locals know with small cities and a relaxed everyday life. It is also a good idea to rent a car to get around the island on sightseeing. You can look forward to a vacation with sun, beach, beautiful nature and historical surroundings.
