Located in south France is the picturesque region Provence. Imagine sunflowers swaying in the wind, beautiful purple lavender fields, cool olive groves and characteristic yellow houses, then you have the beautiful Provence. It is not without reason this area has acted, as inspiration to some grand artists, like Picasso and Vincent van Gogh. Another natural area worth visiting is the Verdon Gorges, which are known as the Grand Canyon of France. In the bottom of the gorges meanders the beautiful, green Verdon River. If you have the courage you can try a wild river rafting tour down the roaring river.

Many years ago the Popes lived in the Pope Palace in the lively city Avignon. Today you can experience the grand gothic palace, which is on UNESCO's World Heritage list. Provence is in general full of charming Provencal towns, which offers winding streets and interesting historic buildings. Aix-en-Provence is one of the prettiest cities in the region, while you in Nîmes get to see the well-preserved amphitheatre. The region both has small, cosy towns and larger cities filled with life, depending on your needs.

Provence is for pleasure seekers! Besides the beautiful nature you also get to look forward to delicious local food. The local cuisine in Province has gotten the poetic name 'Kitchen of the sun' and both offer simple everyday dishes, expensive gourmet dishes and everything in between. The food is seasoned with garlic and fresh herbs and can be enjoyed together with a glass of good red wine. Among the local red wines can be mentioned Côtes de Rhône and Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Provence is filled with beautiful areas, waiting to be explored. If you move to the coast you can experience the French Riviera, where you find the cities Nice and Cannes. But no matter where you choose to go, you are guaranteed beautiful nature and a lot of sun in Provence.
