Castles are maybe not the first thing on your mind, when looking for entertainment for the kids, but Funen has some castles that are much more than just old, dusty bricks. At Valdemar Castle on Tåsinge, the kids can go on a treasure hunt in the castle. After the treasure hunt you can enjoy a game of miniature golf on the largest miniature golf course in Denmark, or you can rent a kayak or bike and go on an a trip. In the Tea Pavilion you can buy ice cream and cake, which you can enjoy on the lovely, white sand beach. At south Funen is another castle, which is perfect for kids, Egeskov Castle. The large outdoor area offers a huge maze, walkways in the treetops and a playground for the small kids. You can also play like in the old days on Grandpa’s playground. If you want more excitement you can try the Segway track with a knight theme.
If there is something the entire family always love, it is exciting animals. At Fjord&Bælt you get to meet the cute porpoises and seals, while Terrariet has the largest collection of reptiles in Scandinavia. Both in Frydenlund Bird Park and Odense Zoo you have the possibility to take your experience with the animals even further. In both parks it is possible to stay a night in the park, during the summer. In Odense Zoo you both get a tour of the park and get to see the giraffe feeding, before you can go to sleep in your savannah tent. If seeing the animals in their enclosures is not enough, you should go on whale safari in Little Belt. Here you are getting on a three-hour boat trip to see the sweet porpoises in their natural surroundings.
If the weather is bad you will need some indoor activities. If you have small kids it is a sure hit to go to an indoor playground. In Odense you find the two big playgrounds Leos Legeland and Løvens Hule, which guarantees you plenty of fun and games. The Danish Railroad Museum (Danmaks Jernbane Museum) is also a fun indoor activity. The entire summer, the place will have fun activities and extra entertainment, to guarantee you a fun day.
