Of the west coast of Greece you find the little and charming island Zakynthos. Zakynthos is the most southern of the Ionic Islands and offers a lovely hot climate the entire year, beautiful beaches and friendly locals.

Zakynthos is a popular destination when it comes to beach holidays. The southeast part of the island has a long beautiful coast with golden sand beaches and fresh blue sea. Argassi and Laganas are some of the most popular tourist cities. Here you find a wealth of entertainment and at night the bars and clubs are filled with partying tourists. Argassi has besides the city also the highest mountain on Zakynthos, placed in its backyard. Take a hike up the mountain and experience the lovely view over the island.

Three to four kilometres from Laganas is the quieter neighbour city Kalamaki, which in particular is popular with families. Kalamaki and Laganas are both located in the Laganas Bay, which is famous for being the home of the sea turtle Caretta Caretta, during the summer months. You can rent a pedalo and go out on your own to find the big turtles or you can go on one of the many boat trips, where trained guides help you spot the turtles. Another very popular boat trip is to Smuggler’s Wreck, where you can experience ice blue sea and one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. The bay has its name due to a stranded shipwreck from an old smuggler ship.

The capital of the island is Zakynthos city. Zakynthos city is less of a tourist town compared to the smaller beach cities, which makes it possible to enjoy the real Greek atmosphere. The city is often called little Venice due to the Venetian building style that recurs in most of the cityscape. The city is perfect for a lovely evening with lovely Greek food and good company.
