The free state of Bavaria, or Bayern as it is called in German, comprises the southeast portion of Germany. It is considered Germany’s premier holiday region and it attracts thousands of tourists each year. With its blue skies and crystal-clear lakes, there are really a lot of reasons why Bayern is an important destination.

Strolling down the region will make you dream about its majestic past. The place is home to countless idyllic villages, old medieval cities and Munich, the region’s capital. Among the hundreds of known and interesting landmarks in this region can be mentioned the King Ludwig II’s Neuschwanstein Castle, the UNESCO-listed ensembles of Wieskirche pilgrimage church, the Roman Limes, Würzburg, Bamberg and Regensburg.

If you are in search for relaxing holiday, you will love the region's several sparkling lakes. The national parks and nature reserves are great for those who love simply being with nature. Its myth-enshrouded forests and sun-drenched vineyards will amaze and thrill you. Let us not forget the majestic Alps, which are home to the tallest mountain in Germany, Mount Zugspitze. A perfect place for family adventures.

Do you want to explore the country further? You may take The Romantic Road, the Castles Route or the German Alpine Road, which are among the most popular tourist routes in Bayern. Following one of these roads is a good way to explore the rich landscape that the region offers to its visitors.

For the religious, this region is the home of Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Victor II. History, nature and relaxing holiday, these are among the things that Bayern in Deutschland can offer. A place well suited for families, couples and groups of friends.
