Langeland means long country in Danish, and as the name indicates it is a very long island, which allows visitors to enjoy a 140 km coastline with lovely beaches up north and impressive waves in the eastern part of the island. If you move further in to the island you will see luxuriant hills, which gives the place life and beauty. Langeland also has some beautiful forests and it is said that Oehlenschläger wrote the lyrics for the Danish national anthem under one of the big beech trees on the island.

The wildlife is also quite unique since Langeland has wild horses. The wild horses were brought to Langeland as part of a plan of minimizing the natural vegetation and the horses now live their own life and run around on an area of 110 ha. During the summer, when the horses are in heat you can witness the showdowns between the dominating stallion and young stallions in the flock. Besides horses Langeland is also known for their many birds. Especially in the autumn there are great opportunities to see large flocks of birds fly by.

Langeland has many well-preserved buildings and a holiday on the island therefore needs to include some of these attractions. Langelandsfortet is probably the best known attraction, but also Skovsgård and the Langeland museum are exciting places if you want to dive into the stories of old times.
